QD Bushings Manufacturers

QD bushings are utilized throughout the industrial power transmission and agricultural industry for various sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, and synchronized drives. They are designed for easy installation and easy uninstallation; they are also commonly referred to as quick-disconnect bushings.

QD bushings can help conventional mounting with the flange outboard and reverse mounting to where the flange is inboard and utilize a single split that extends through the entire bushing length.

qd bushing definition

What Is A QD Bushing?

QD or “quick Detachable” bushings are bifurcated tapered flange bushings that bifurcated through the flange and taper. These QD bushings provide excellent clamping force on the shaft.

QD style bushings are used for sprockets, pulleys, and pulleys to increase clamping force beyond standard boring to size products that utilize only a keyway and set screws to lock onto the shaft. QD bushings are very popular and are interchangeable between manufacturers.

How to Install and Remove QD Bushings?

Dismounting

1. Remove all pull-up bolts and screw them into tapped holes in sprocket or other part, against flange of QD bushing to break the cone grip.

2. Loosen set screw and slide QD bushing from shaft.

01
Be sure that the tapered cone surfaces on the bushing and inside of the driven product are clean and free of oil or anti-seize lubricants. Slide the QD bushing on the shaft, flange the end first, then assemble the key.
02
Position the QD bushing on the shaft. Tighten the set screw over the key (hand tight) with a standard Allen wrench. Do not use excessive force.
03
Slide the large end of the sprocket or other part taper bore into position over the cone, aligning drilled bolt holes in the sprocket or other part with tapered holes into the bushing flange. Then assemble the pull-up bolts and lock washers.
04
Tighten pull-up bolts alternatively and evenly to the tightness indicated in the torque table below. Do not use extensions on the wrench handles. There should now be a gap between the face of the sprocket or other part hub and the flange of the QD bushing to ensure a good cone grip and press fit.

Quick-detachable qd bushings have precise tolerances for mounting pulleys, sprockets and other power transmission components. The most common application is in industrial Settings, where large quantities of raw materials are moved from one place to another. Unlike plastic or polyurethane bushings, steel bushings are corrosion resistant and have a long service life.

Regardless of what the application calls for, gates qd bushings can help increase productivity and profitability with a minimum of downtime.

Gates Qd Bushing

QD taper lock bushings are manufactured from steel or cast materials and are designed to keep the overall length (including the hub) narrow on the sprocket, and pulley. Its efficient design provides narrow contours while creating a tight grip/coupling action to secure the components to specific shaft dimensions.

The taper lock bushing is designed to be separated through the casing and has a gradual 8° taper Angle, resulting in an equivalent string fit when installed into the assembly.

Qd Taper Lock Bushing

Browning qd bushing is a mechanically fastening hub pulley, sprocket, gear and bale. It features a flange barrel that is split on each side and is designed to work with various types of shafts. At MSC Industrial Supply, you can choose from a variety of available Browning qd bushings to suit your needs.

Choosing the right Browning qd bushing for your application is critical to getting a reliable and long-lasting system up and running.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What Are the Features and Benefits of QD Bushings?

Ⅰ. The high degree of standardization, high precision, compact structure, convenient installation and disassembly

Ⅱ. Good versatility and interchangeability, suitable for various occasions

Ⅲ. Reduce maintenance costs and save time

Ⅳ. The 8-degree outer cone is tightly connected with the inner cone of the pulley, sprocket, and other transmission parts, dramatically improving the centering accuracy of various transmission parts.

QD Bushing VS Taper Lock

The main difference between the two is that the QD style bushing has a flange around the outside diameter, while the taper lock bushing has straight sides on the OD, which is meant to mount flush. Many people refer to both types as a “taper lock” because they both use the tapered wedging action to lock to the shaft. With its straight sides, the taper bushing uses a set screw to drive the bushing into the bore of the installed component (sheave, sprocket, etc.).

Be careful when installing these screws. The holes with threads on the bushing are for removal only. Also, be aware that the appearance of a flange outside the bushing doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a QD style. Split Taper bushing also has a flange, and the two are not interchangeable. The QD style has a split that continues through the flange.

QD Bushings

Compared To The Qd Bushing The Split Taper

QD bushings are widely used throughout the industrial power drive and agricultural industry for a variety of sprockets, pulleys, and synchronous drives. They feature a flange on the outside diameter that connects the shaft sleeve to the sprocket or pulley. They also have a taper – usually 4 degrees, half of the taper lock bushing – providing a tighter fit and improving retention by tightening the cap screws.

Split taper bushing is widely used in pulley, conveyor pulley and sprocket. Split tapered bushings are made of high-grade steel or castings, interchangeable with any other brand, and are designed as flanged bushings with tapered barrels that contain a slit on each side. Split taper bushings are one of the most commonly used bushings, which can successfully attach the shaft to the drive or idler assembly due to their overall strength, ease of installation and unloading, and high holding force.

How Does A Qd Bushing Work?

QD bushings are used for sprockets, pulleys, and pulleys to increase clamping force beyond standard boring to size products that utilize only a keyway and set screws to lock onto the shaft.

One advantage of the qd bushing is that it has a split tapered flange, split center flange and taper. They are used for sprockets, pulleys, and bushings that require more clamping force than standard boring to size.
