Difference Between Qd And Split Taper Bushing:

QD bushings are widely used throughout the industrial power drive and agricultural industry for a variety of sprockets, pulleys, and synchronous drives. They feature a flange on the outside diameter that connects the shaft sleeve to the sprocket or pulley. They also have a taper – usually 4 degrees, half of the taper lock bushing – providing a tighter fit and improving retention by tightening the cap screws.

Split taper bushing is widely used in pulleys, conveyor pulleys, and sprockets. Split tapered bushings are made of high-grade steel or castings, interchangeable with any other brand, and are designed as flanged bushings with tapered barrels that contain a slit on each side. Split taper bushings are one of the most commonly used bushings, which can successfully attach the shaft to the drive or idler assembly due to their overall strength, ease of installation and unloading, and high holding force.

QD Bushing Features and Benefits:

The bushing also features a split through the flange and taper for easier installation and improved holding power by tightening cap screws. All sizes except JA and H have a set screw over the key to help maintain the bushings position on the shaft until they are securely tightened.

Installation and Removal of QD Bushings:

Standard Mounting

1. Be sure that the tapered cone surfaces on the bushing and inside of the driven product are clean and free of oil or anti-seize lubricants.

2. Slide the QD bushing on the shaft, flange the end first, then assemble the key.

3. Position the QD bushing on the shaft. Tighten the set screw over the key (hand tight) with a standard Allen wrench. Do not use excessive force.

4. Slide the large end of the sprocket or other part taper bore into position over the cone, aligning drilled bolt holes in the sprocket or other part with tapered holes into the flange of the bushing. Then assemble the pull-up bolts and lock washers.

5. Tighten pull-up bolts alternatively and evenly to the tightness indicated in the torque table below. Do not use extensions on the wrench handles. There should now be a gap between the face of the sprocket or other part hub and the flange of the QD bushing to ensure a good cone grip and press fit. Caution: this gap must not be closed.

Dismounting

1. Remove all pull-up bolts and screw them into tapped holes in the pocket or another part against the flange of the QD bushing to break the cone grip.

2. Loosen the set screw and slide the QD bushing from the shaft.

Applications of QD Bushings

QD Bushings feature a split tapered flange with the split central to the flange and taper. They are used on sprockets, sheaves, and pulleys where more clamping force is required over standard bored-to-size bushings.
